Are public celebrations by the Government a wastage of money?

It is the generic thought of most of the peoples living in the Indian society that public celebrations like national holidays, important dates and special occasions are all a waste of money. And the government need to spend these funds in a better manner. After all, the importance of money is realized by those who need it the most–the one’s who are hardly able to meet their daily expectations. What is your opinion on this? Agreed or disagreed! Let’s discuss the perspectives of a user from both angles.

Perspective 1

The celebration of the National Holiday causes an unwanted expenditure of a lot of money. Government has to pay a lot of wages to employees, despite their unavailability from the work. Also, the nation has to figure out a significant loss in productivity. Owing to these reasons, some socially responsible people suggest governments stay away from the unnecessary expenditure on festive holidays and spend this money on worthy projects.

Well! The suggestion sounds very practical, however, there are some strong reasons to oppose it.

1- It’s natural that the production rate declines when workers are on leave. Still, it is a very little section of a mighty economic structure.

2-Productivity isn’t only defined through the working hours, but also with enthusiasm and motivation.

3-With national holidays, workers get an opportunity to celebrate the moments, learn the social aspects of their country, and spend a few days of relaxation.

4-This way after returning back to work from the holiday, employees might feel happier, enthusiastic and more productive than before.

These are some of the solid reasons why the importance of public celebrations should be given. As this shows, the cancellation of public holidays and shifting of this fund is an inappropriate suggestion.

Why public celebrations by Government are necessary? Other supporting reasons

The events celebrated publicly are unique to every country and understood to be the strongest indicator of their history, tradition and cultural background. These occasional celebrations also promote the tourism industry–travel enthusiasts visit different countries to have a close view of their culture.

Logical conclusion

The only logic behind spending on public celebrations is important for any country. Therefore expenses on celebrations work as a drop in the ocean in comparison to other projects, also when government ceases to fund to solve other issues.
