Will web streaming services cause an end to traditional cinema culture?

Two year-long pandemic period has put a brake on the economy by affecting different industries of the world. The entertainment industry is among those sectors that faced major setbacks. It had been a long time since cinemas are closed, therefore video streaming services have received more popularity during these days. All streaming platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hotstar, etc. have seen a huge increase in the number of viewers. Now, people can watch latest Bollywood movies of their interest sitting in their home. This is also a reason why traditional means of entertainment like theatres and cinemas have to struggle a lot due to the pandemic period.

The Internet changed the world

Mobile and the internet have transformed the lives of people by shrinking the world with communication. The power to communicate with anyone in the world through words, texts, music, and videos has directly impacted our ways of doing business. The movie industry too has figured out drastic changes owing to the evolutionary nature of internet media. Coupled with cheap digital technology, the internet makes it possible for anyone to set up and access video projects with much ease.

Web streaming Vs Cinema: who has an upper hand

The days of a hard nut to crack are far away. Gone are the days when we had to visit cinema halls or purchase DVDs to watch a movie. Yes! You have an option of online streaming. The devastating effect of covid and aftereffect of lockdown has made online streaming channels more popular than cinema. Now, we have a large choice of films, documentaries, TV shows without going anywhere outside.

But can you imagine the future of cinema halls among all this? We can estimate the future by analyzing the past.

-The increase in the popularity of movie theatres has been figured out since the 1990s.

-The advent of streaming came after the development of the internet.

-As soon as streaming services started taking their marketplace, movie theatres had to struggle in finding some different way to beat the competition

-Among the past 10 years, streaming services have been creating threats for the cinema.

Taking the example of Netflix- It becomes more interesting for people to subscribe to Netflixnetflix spending less cost and gaining access to thousands of tv shows, documentaries, and films.

Stay at home is the slogan that everyone around the world has been hearing for over a year now. The majority of people spend there watching audiovisual content online. It gave a huge rise in the number of Netflix users that crossed around 200 million in the world.

Ways traditional cinema implemented to beat the competition

In the 2010s when traditional cinema was introduced, it was thought that it will normalize the ratio, but in reality, it failed to live up to the expectations. Another type of cinema worked on 4DX with multiple effects allowing to stimulate five senses. The opening of cinemas might be complicated owing to the strong barrier and social distancing measures.

Although the overall effect of cinema has been declining, still the traditional effect of vintage cinema will not lose its charm. It is very attractive, and 3D and 4DX modes of cinemas will again boom up offering a new taste of freedom after several months of lockdown. After spending a lot of time in isolation, to experience something new, people will surely move out to cherish happy moments in some different style.

To conclude, streaming services are slowly and steadily gaining more applauds, yet we confidently say that cinema is not dead. The culture of traditional cinema is embedded in our lifestyle, and streaming services can never provide an experience as similar as cinemas.
